The first Court of the Ladies’ Oriental Shrine of North America (LOSNA) was established in Wheeling, West Virginia, in 1903. As the organization grew, additional Courts were formed across North America. While continuing to support the Nobles in their Shrine activities, each Court also manages its own affairs—all with the shared purpose of benefiting the children served by Shriners Hospitals. The Ladies’ Oriental Shrine of North America is a distinct organization, operating under the guidance of its Grand Council. Today, there are approximately sixty active Courts throughout North America, with continued growth.
Jobel Court No. 11 was instituted on October 19, 1920, and has proudly served the Altoona, Pennsylvania community for more than a century. The Court meets on the second Thursday of each month, excluding July and December, at the Jaffa Shrine Center in Altoona. Members dedicate their efforts to supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children as well as local community charities. Over the years, the Court has hosted a variety of successful and enjoyable fundraisers, including homemade peanut brittle sales, apple dumplings, annual basket bingo, and hoagie sales.
Jobel Court No. 11 also offers several units that provide opportunities for fellowship and fun. The Jobel Jewlz is a parading unit that promotes the organization in local parades and performs at the regional Mid-Eastern Unit Meet and the annual Grand Council Session. The Jovial Jobel Jokesters, a clown unit, performs at the Jaffa Shrine Circus, participates in parades, attends community events, and appears at both the Mid-Eastern Unit Meet and Grand Council Session. The Bluebelles of Jobel Court, a bagpipe group, also marches in parades and performs at these regional and annual events.
